JSG Be Engaged Fund
About
The JSG Be Engaged Fund is dedicated to building a stronger community within the Jackson School of Geosciences and to fostering a sense of connection at the University of Texas at Austin. This fund will support grants ranging from $100 – $2500. Members of the JSG Community are invited to submit project proposals that propose an activity, outreach project, or joint learning opportunity to support the JSG Community. We seek proposals for new ideas as well as opportunities to fund successful existing campus initiatives that can be enhanced or expanded.
Eligibility, Requirements, and Guidelines
- The JSG Be Engaged Fund is open to Jackson School of Geoscience employees and students.
- Requestors must currently be assigned or enrolled as majors in the Jackson School of Geoscience at The University of Texas at Austin to apply at the time of award disbursement.
- The employee or student can submit only one proposal as lead proposer per year/funding cycle (September 1-August 31).
- Proposals should be submitted one month prior to the proposed activity.
- Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.
- Awarded funds must be used by end of fiscal cycle.
- Only complete applications will be considered.
- These JSG-funded events must be open to all JSG employees and students.
- Funding cannot be used for conference or workshop travel fees.
- Funded projects and participants must abide by all institutional rules and regulations including, entertainment and purchasing rules.

JSG Go Further Fund
About
The purpose of the JSG Go Further Fund is to encourage full participation and professional growth. The funds are intended to support professional development activities that may be just out of reach. Awards are anticipated to range from $50 – $1000 on the basis of demonstrated need and cost of the activity. The maximum award amount is $1000.
Eligibility, Requirements, and Guidelines
Eligibility
- The JSG Go Further Fund is open to Jackson School of Geoscience employees and students whose annual income does not exceed $80,000.
- Requestors must currently be assigned or enrolled as majors in the Jackson School of Geoscience at The University of Texas at Austin to apply at the time of award disbursement.
Timeline for review
- Complete applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis but must be received at least one month prior to the intended activity for which support is requested.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Award
- Funds must be used for the activity specified in the application.
- Individuals may only receive funding once per year (September 1-August 31).
- Funds will be deposited in a JSG account for the individual’s use. Students will have the awarded funds added to their PDA. Alternatively, a taxable award may be processed.
Prize conditions
- Funded projects and participants must abide by all institutional rules and regulations including entertainment and purchasing rules.
- Ineligible expenses:
- Meals, alcohol and/or entertainment expenses.
- Personal expenses unrelated to the professional development activity.
How to apply
- A current UT EID is required.
- Complete the application describing the professional development activity (providing weblinks to description of the activity/event) and the need for supplemental funding.
