Math & Science Institute
This 8-day institute is designed to prepare entering STEM majors for college-level calculus, chemistry, and physics courses before their first year of undergrad!
Applications for Summer 2025 will open in the Spring!
What will students do?
Students will learn introductory chemistry, calculus, and physics (NEW this summer!) lessons from current PhD students at the College of Natural Sciences at UT. Throughout the week they will also have multiple opportunities to learn professional development skills, hear from current undergrads about the transition to college, and get connected with helpful on-campus resources! Students who complete the program will also receive a stipend.
Who can apply?
Applicants should be recent GeoFORCE alumni who completed the 12th grade academy in Summer 2024 and will be entering their first year of college in the fall. Students who had an excused absence for Summer 2024 and did not attend the 12th grade program are also welcome to apply. This is the perfect program for students who will be majoring in a STEM field in Fall 2025.
Where will students stay?
Participants will stay on campus, at the dorms at the University of Texas at Austin for the entire week. There they’ll get the chance to explore unique restaurants and local gems alongside GeoFORCE coordinators and PLA’s (Peer-Learning Assistants) currently living and/or studying in Austin.
When is the program happening this summer?
For Summer 2024, the Math & Science Institute ran from Saturday, July 27th to Saturday, August 3rd! Students heard back about their applications status by the end of April. 12th Grade Academy students in Summer 2024 should expect applications to open in spring 2025.
