Walter Geology Library

Welcome back to campus, and a special welcome to the new students and faculty members joining us! One of my primary goals this year is to continue strengthening and expanding our collections with resources that support your teaching, learning, and research. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with recommendations or requests. Just as importantly, I hope to build new connections and strengthen existing ones across the department and college. I look forward to hearing from you throughout the year and learning how the library can best support your work.

The Walter Geology Library’s extensive and unique collections have been relocated to new spaces. We continue to add to these collections and are dedicated to maintaining access and ensuring long-term preservation.

A browsing collection of high-use, higher-interest geology materials can now be found in the Life Science Library, located in the Main Building on the lower floor of the stacks. While most new monographs are acquired as eBooks, new print books will also go directly to this on-site collection.

A subset of the Tobin Geological Map Collection can be found in the PCL map room in the cabinets under the geologic globes. This PCL collection primarily covers Texas, US state survey publications, continents and oceans.

Remaining books, journals and maps are held off-site in our library storage facility and remain available for delivery to both the main campus and PRC.

To request a scan of an article or chapter, use our Get a Scan service. You may use this service for both articles we must request via ILL and for print journals and book chapters from our collection.

To request materials for pickup from PCL or a campus branch library, use the “Get it” link in Libraries’ online catalog. The Classics Library in Waggener Hall, is closest to the JSG building.

To request physical materials for delivery to Pickle Research Campus, place a “Book” request in our ILL system. Pickle employees: In the “Change User Information” section of your ILL account, make sure to add your PRC address and set your Location Status as Remote User. We will then send your requested items through campus mail with a return envelope.

To recommend a purchase, please use our Suggest a Purchase service.

To request materials for your courses or place an item on reserve, please use our Course Materials Request form.

To request items in storage be permanently moved to the Life Science Library stacks, contact your librarian, Janelle Hedstrom: jhedstrom@austin.utexas.edu.
