COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution

The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) recently defined the Phase 1B population prioritized for the next round of vaccine distribution. The state makes decisions regarding allocation on a weekly basis, and distributes vaccine accordingly. We will continue to update our campus regularly on the availability and timing of vaccines for our current students, faculty and staff following DSHS guidance and depending on vaccine availability

The university is actively pursuing allocations for our campus community and working to ensure we request enough vaccines from the state and quickly and efficiently give to those eligible individuals who want it. Current faculty, staff, and students who meet the state-defined Phase 1B criteria and want to receive the two-dose vaccine from the university were asked to fill out the COVID-19 Vaccine Form to assist with this effort. The form allows the university to request sufficient supply from the state, but scheduling will be based upon vaccine availability. Talk to your health care provider if you have questions about your eligibility for the state-defined Phase 1B category.

All current UT students, faculty and staff will be able to receive a vaccine once there is sufficient supply to meet the demand. Vaccines are highly encouraged for the campus community. As Longhorns, we are bound together by the core values that guide us in our efforts to transform lives for the benefit of society. Vaccination is an opportunity for each of us to consider our individual responsibility in helping to protect our families, friends, neighbors and coworkers from the dangers of this disease. It will take all of us to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community. When enough people get vaccinated, the spread from person-to-person becomes less frequent and thereby increases protection of the whole community.

Vaccine distribution for the university community is a collaborative effort between University Health Services, UT Health Austin/Dell Medical School, the College of Pharmacy, the School of Nursing and the Office of Campus Safety. Vaccinating our campus community will likely be a months-long process as federal, state, and local officials coordinate vaccine availability, distribution, and guidance. Thank you for your flexibility as we balance the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine with our existing clinic operations.
