American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Student Chapter
The Longhorn American Association of Petroleum Geologists chapter at the University of Texas at Austin was established to engage the members of the geoscience and petroleum engineering communities on campus. Today as a club we provide opportunities for members to learn about new and ongoing research, interact with those working in the industry, gain new skills, and grow their personal networks.
Energy Resources Group

Graduate Student Executive Committee (GSEC)
The Jackson School of Geosciences Graduate Student Executive Committee (GSEC) represents the graduate students within the JSG. We organize community and social activities for the graduate students and work closely with faculty, staff, and other Jackson School student organizations to foster a greater Jackson School community.
Undergraduate Geological Society (UGS)
The Undergraduate Geological Society (UGS) is a student-run organization within the Jackson School that seeks to provide a means of academic, social, and professional unification amongst undergraduate geology students. UGS offers an engaging speaker series, social events, as well as volunteer and fundraising opportunities.
Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Student Chapter
Society of Exploration Geophysicists is a student run organization for geophysics students at the University of Texas at Austin. We also serve as the UT Society of Exploration Geophysicists student chapter. We are an organization dedicated to fostering communication and collaboration among geophysicists at UT, connecting our students with current work done in and outside of academia, and promoting science in the community. We organize technical seminars, social events for students, and volunteer events around Austin. We also support student attendance at the SEG conference each year. It’s a great way to meet other students and to make connections with professional geophysicists in academia and industry! Hook ’em horns!
UT Wide Student Organizations
Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers
Our purpose is to prepare Asian heritage scientists and engineers for success in the global business world, to celebrate diversity and participate socially on campus, and to provide opportunities for members to make contributions to their local communities. At core, we are an equally social and professional organization for students to be involved on campus.
Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (oSTEM)
Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (oSTEM) at UT Austin is a professional student organization for undergraduate and graduate LGBTQ students in STEM. The group hosts lectures from LGBTQ STEM professionals (e.g. Microsoft, BP, Chevron), monthly study nights with snacks, and year-round social events.
Queer Graduate Student Association (QGSA)
The Queer Grad student Alliance is an agency of the UT’s Graduate Student Assembly. QGSA seeks to promote community across the entire UT campus for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning graduate students and their allies. They seek to provide social events and other relevant programming to give graduate students the opportunity to connect outside of their individual colleges.
