Jay BannerProfessor Jay Banner has received one of the nation’s most prestigious teaching awards: the Robert Foster Cherry Award from Baylor University! This award celebrates extraordinary university or college teachers who have made a significant, lasting impact on their students, and Professor Banner is a shining example of such an educator.

With a passion for sustainability, environmental science, geochemistry, and environmental justice, Professor Banner has inspired countless students through his engaging and impactful teaching. As the director of UT’s Environmental Science Institute, he has also founded the widely acclaimed public lecture series “Hot Science – Cool Talks,” which brings cutting-edge science to the public in an accessible and exciting way.

As part of this incredible honor, Professor Banner will be teaching in residence at Baylor during the 2025 spring semester. We congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to the inspiring work he will continue to do!
