Jackson School Mourns Passing of Longtime NPL Director

Ann Molineux passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2018, losing the war against cancer but only after winning many battles during that seven year struggle. Beloved wife of Ian for 47 years, she is also survived by her very dear children Charles and Catherine, her four grandchildren Cody, Tyler, Callie, and Chase, and by her brother Michael and his children, Helen and Fran.
Ann was born in Lindfield, Sussex, England and earned her MA in geography from Cambridge University in 1965. Her professional career began as a cartographer at the Oxford University Press, followed by Syracuse University, Harvard University Laboratory for Computer Graphics, Boston University, and the NERC Experimental Cartography Unit in London, England. Her focus at the time was on developing computerized methods for cartography. After a hiatus while raising her family, she obtained a Texas Certificate of Education in earth sciences in 1989, followed by a Ph. D. in geology in 1997, both from UT Austin. Ann then became Collections manager at the Nonvertebrate Paleontological Laboratory, eventually becoming Director of Museum Operations and Curator of NPL in the Jackson School of Geosciences. Paleontology became an insatiable passion, and her career came full-circle as she ultimately focused on developing computer technology to include precise GPS coordinates in the curation and digitization of the nonvertebrate collections at UT.
Ann loved all things geological, but she always found time to love her extended family and to follow a boundless curiosity with the environment. In lieu of flowers, her transatlantic family is honoring her indomitable spirit by establishing the Ann Molineux Excellence Fund to further her goals, aspirations and dreams for continued development of the UT NPL collections.
