In 2023, the Jackson School of Geosciences recruited a record number of students to its outreach and support programs geared toward future geoscientists.

The award-winning GeoFORCE high school outreach program, which takes high school students from underserved areas on summer field trips, welcomed a total of 512 students from Houston, Austin and southwest Texas schools.

The Research Traineeship Experience (RTX) program hosted 20 students, double the number that participated in 2022. The program is a 9-week paid research program on the UT campus for STEM undergraduates and recent grads.

The Gateway to Graduate Studies in Science program (G2S2), which invites prospective graduate students to the Jackson School while covering the costs of the visit, had over 90 applicants, triple the previous record.
