Program Spotlight: Spring Break in Patagonia
February 16, 2026

For about 20 students in the Jackson School’s Undergraduate Honors Research Program, Spring Break 2025 was a standout. The students traveled to Patagonia where they hiked mountains, observed glaciers, and even spent some time with Fiona, the 131-million-year-old fossil of a pregnant ichthyosaur.
The trip brought together a range of geosciences subjects — including glaciology, orogeny, geomorphology and paleontology. Patagonia proved to be the perfect place to explore them all together.
