Danny Stockli Named Interim Dean of the Jackson School of Geosciences

Dear Jackson School community,

I am happy to announce that Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Chair Danny Stockli will be stepping in as interim Dean of the Jackson School of Geosciences when I step down at the end of January. A formal announcement will be made very shortly by the Provost.

I can think of no better choice to lead the Jackson School at this time. Danny has been a pillar of the school’s leadership team, a partner in finding solutions to many of the school’s greatest challenges and has helped to frame and accomplish many of its top successes. Danny’s leadership abilities have been on full display as department chair since 2021. He successfully led the name change for the department and oversaw the launch of the state’s first climate system science degree. He played a pivotal role in overhauling the school’s undergraduate curriculum and more than doubling the undergraduate student enrollment. He helped bring in a whole cohort of exciting and talented new faculty with great disciplinary range, helping us build toward continued success. Above all, he set a tremendous example of fair and open leadership and dedication to his role, as he worked hard for the benefit of the department and the school. I have no doubt he will serve all of you very well and be a tremendous representative for the Jackson School to our new administration.

Although my last day as Dean is Saturday, I will be available to Danny to support him in any way necessary to make the transition as smooth as possible. The Jackson School is one of the strongest geosciences institutions in the world, and we have built tremendous momentum over the past six years. With Danny coming in as interim Dean, I expect the momentum to continue and the Jackson School to remain one of the best places in the world to work and learn as a geoscientist!
