Historically, geothermal power has been limited to particular hot spots around the world.

A new industrial affiliates program, called HotRock, is working to change that by bringing “geothermal anywhere.” The geothermal anywhere paradigm depends on next-generation geothermal technology that can tap into subtle heat reservoirs, many in sedimentary basins producing oil and gas.

Based out of the Bureau of Economic Geology, HotRock will focus on geothermal resource assessment, production, seismicity, exploration, production and economic development with this technology in mind.
