Young Named ASA Fellow

YoungMichael Young the Jackson School of Geosciences Associate Dean for Research, has been named a fellow of the American Society of Agronomy (ASA).

The ASA is an international scientific and professional society that empowers scientists, educators, and practitioners in developing, disseminating and applying agronomic solutions to feed and sustain the world. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, the ASA was founded in 1907 and has more than 7,000 members and 12,000 certified crop advisers dedicated to advancing the field of agronomy.

Fellow is the highest recognition bestowed by the ASA. A maximum of 0.3 % of the society’s active and emeritus members may be elected fellow. It is based on professional achievements and meritorious service.

Young has over 35 years of professional experience in academic research, federal regulatory and private industry. His research spans the general areas of environmental geosciences, hydrology, and soil sciences and physics. As the Associate Dean of Research, he is responsible for fostering an active research culture at the Jackson School and promoting the formulation and implementation of major collaborative research initiatives and multi- and interdisciplinary research.

He was previously the associate director for the environmental division of the Bureau of Economic Geology.
