Every year we hire GeoFORCE alumni, geoscience undergraduates, graduate students, and educators to support our week-long summer academies. Each position plays an important role in helping students learn more about the geosciences.


Each GeoFORCE Summer Staff position now has its own application on UT’s Workday system. Links to these applications are available on Workday and below

NOTE: Each position asks applicants to upload a resume and “Letter of Interest” document with answers to various Screening Questions. These questions can be viewed beforehand at the “Screening Questions” links below, unique to each position.

Below are the Position Descriptions and Screening Questions for Summer 2026

Position DescriptionScreening Questions

The GeoFORCE Summer Intern will support the full-time GeoFORCE coordinators in and out of the office for the entirety of the summer. This full-time temporary position will include administrative duties, supply organization, and in-field support.

Required qualifications: GeoFORCE Alum. Currently enrolled at or recent graduate of a 4-year college or university. A Texas Drivers License.

Preferred qualifications: Experience with the function and process of a GeoFORCE summer academy. Be a rising junior, rising senior, or recent graduate during Summer 2026. Previous experience with field camp or summer camp.

GeoFORCE Instructor – $40/hr *

In-Person & Virtual Academies (In-Person – 7 spots available, Virtual – 1 spot available)

Position DescriptionScreening Questions

Required qualifications: Two or more years of post-Baccalaureate education in geoscience or a related field

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. in geoscience or geoscience education, Experience teaching secondary school students, Experience managing and delivering science enrichment programs

GeoFORCE Educational Coach (EC) – $25/hr * (7 spots available)

Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, STEM education, or a STEM field.

Preferred qualifications: Classroom teaching experience, Academic enrichment experience with secondary school students, Bilingual (Spanish)

GeoFORCE Trail Driver – $20/hr (9 spots available)

Required qualifications: A valid Texas driver’s license and ability to become a certified UT driver

Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree

GeoFORCE Counselor – $20/hr (22 spots available)

Required qualifications: Currently enrolled or recent graduate of a 4-year college or university

Preferred qualifications: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in STEM or STEM education field, specifically in the geosciences.

GeoFORCE Math & Science Instructor *

(M&SI) – $40/hr (3 spots available)

Position DescriptionScreening Questions

GeoFORCE Math & Science Instructors are graduate students, researchers, faculty, or current high school level educators in the fields of Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. They deliver instruction to 20-40 incoming college freshmen in introduction to college calculus, chemistry, and physics.

Required qualifications: Two or more years of post-Baccalaureate education

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. in a related STEM field

GeoFORCE Peer-Learning Assistant (PLA)

(M&SI) – $20/hr (6 spots available)

Position DescriptionScreening Questions

GeoFORCE Peer-Learning Assistants (PLAs) support the Math & Science Institute by functioning as a tutor for either introductory chemistry or calculus lessons. They are also willing to give students advice on the transition from high school to college.

Required qualifications: Currently enrolled or recent graduate of a 4-year college or university

Preferred qualifications: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in STEM or STEM education field.

  • Your current or summer employer, grant-funding agency, academic advisor, and/or concurrent summer educational/research program must allow you to participate.
  • You must be legally allowed to work for The University of Texas at Austin.
  • GeoFORCE will not pay overtime for staff who work more than 40 hrs/week as a result of concurrent positions through The University of Texas.
  • A resume or CV is required for all staff applications.
  • Short answer questions will be asked in lieu of a cover letter or formal interview.
  • Please know your summer availability before applying.

NOTE: To protect the integrity of the application process and prestige of the GeoFORCE Texas program, review, evaluation, and rank of applications will be a “blind” process (i.e. without demographic info or volunteer/paid indicators). Per UT Youth Protection Program regulations, selection and academy appointment of research group lead and counselor positions will be based on self-identified gender.

* Graduate Students currently studying at the University of Texas at Austin – ask your faculty sponsor if you will have summer support (GRA, GTA, Fellowship) and let us know. We are only able to hire grad students on certain fellowships or those who do not have summer support. Students with a summer GRA or GTA at UT Austin and those with fellowships which preclude outside work will not be able to work with GeoFORCE over the summer.
