Coordinator Spotlight: Akeem Todd

We are excited to introduce the newest member of our team, Akeem Todd!

Akeem is a Hilbert College graduate, traveler, and self-proclaimed foodie who enjoys exploring new cultures, experiences, and perspectives. With nearly a decade of experience in social work and workforce development supporting a range of populations from youth to older adults, his background in outreach, case management, and student-focused programming makes him a strong addition to the GeoFORCE team. His work has consistently focused on helping individuals navigate systems, explore career pathways, and build confidence in their futures.

In his own words, “I’ve always believed that when individuals are given the right support and access to resources, they can build real momentum toward their future no matter where they start.”

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Akeem grew up in a fast-paced and multicultural environment that shaped how he connects with people. “Growing up in New York City exposed me to so many different cultures and experiences. I had to learn quickly how to adapt and connect with people from all walks of life, which shaped how I show up in my work today, meeting people where they are, understanding different perspectives, and helping them move forward.”

Akeem earned his Bachelor’s in Forensic Science from Hilbert College in Hamburg, New York. Although his academic path began in science, he discovered his passion for direct service and supporting others after college, which led him into social work and later workforce development. He began his career as a Child Protection Caseworker with the Erie County Department of Social Services and later served as a Care Coordinator with Gateway Longview, a nonprofit in Buffalo. After relocating to Austin, Texas in 2021, he continued his work in social services supporting older adults in a memory care setting.

Across these roles, Akeem worked with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and learning styles, helping them access resources, overcome barriers, and stay on track toward their goals. He later transitioned into workforce development, where he managed multi-campus skilled trades training programs at a nonprofit serving hundreds of adult learners in Austin. In this role, he focused on strengthening programming, supporting staff, and helping participants build clear pathways into long-term careers. This experience, along with his passion for supporting learners of all ages, led him to GeoFORCE and the opportunity to work with high school students through The University of Texas.

“I have seen how powerful it is when individuals get the right guidance at the right time. A lot of the work I have done is about removing barriers, providing appropriate resources, and helping people see what is possible for them.”

Akeem is excited to bring his experience in outreach, relationship-building, and student-focused programming to GeoFORCE, where he looks forward to supporting students as they explore STEM opportunities and think intentionally about their futures.

“I am excited to join GeoFORCE because it brings together everything I care about, working with students, building relationships, and helping open doors to new opportunities. I am looking forward to being part of a program that truly invests in young people and their potential.”

Outside of work, Akeem enjoys traveling, trying new foods and restaurants, exploring music and art, and spending time with friends and family. He is especially excited about the opportunity to travel with students and be part of their growth and discovery through the GeoFORCE academies.

All of us at GeoFORCE are thrilled to welcome Akeem to the team and look forward to the impact he will make in supporting students across Texas!
