Research Symposium

Each Spring, GSEC organizes a Research Symposium where Jackson School of Geosciences students (undergraduate and graduate) present their research to judges comprised of faculty, research scientists, and industry representatives. 2023 Symposium Information

What: 12th Annual Jackson School Research Symposium brought to you by the Graduate Student Executive Committee and ConocoPhillips
When: February 11th 2023
Where: San Jacinto Hall, University of Texas at Austin, 309 E 21st St, Austin, TX 78705
Who: Presenters: Jackson School graduate and undergraduate student presenters

Judges: Faculty, research scientist and industry professionals

Attendees: Everyone is welcome! Bring along your family & friends!

Goals: This event aims to provide cross-disciplinary collaboration among graduate students, undergraduate students, and faculty/research scientists
Format: Presentations will be in AGU-style poster format (see Presenters Information for specific instructions); judging will occur throughout the day and students will have a session during which they need to be at their posters for judging.
Schedule:
8:30 – 9:00 a.m. Breakfast Tacos & Coffee
9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Early Career Grads & Late Career MS
11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Lunch (will provide GF and Vegan options)
1:00 – 3:30 p.m. Undergrads, Late Career PhD, & High School Students
3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Happy Hour & Awards

Other Information
  • We are working with the venue to provide a lactation room, quiet sensory room / prayer space, and gender-neutral restroom.
  • Food will be provided to meet different dietary needs (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut-free), but please get in touch if you have a different allergy or dietary need you’d like us to account for.
  • We are also attempting to provide financial support for child care (contingent upon sponsorship).
