14th Annual Jackson School of Geosciences Student Research Symposium

Each spring semester, Jackson School students present their research in a day-long poster competition. Throughout the day, judges comprised of faculty, research scientists, and industry representatives evaluate the posters. At the closing ceremony, 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd place poster awards are presented in the following categories: High School, Undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. Aspirants., and Ph.D. candidates. The award amounts are listed below. The goal of the Symposium is to provide cross-disciplinary collaboration among graduate students, undergraduate students, faculty, and research scientists at the Jackson School.

Morning and afternoon poster sessions will each have two full judging categories represented. Judges will only be assigned to one judging category.

Who: Presenters: Jackson School graduate and undergraduate student presenters (submit your abstract here!!)

Judges: Faculty, research scientists, and industry professionals

Attendees: Everyone is welcome! Bring along your family & friends!

Goals: This event aims to provide cross-disciplinary collaboration among graduate students, undergraduate students, and faculty/research scientists, as well as provide feedback to students on their presentations.
Format: Presentations will be in AGU-style poster format (see Presenters Information for specific instructions); judging will occur throughout the day and students will have a session during which they need to be at their posters for judging.

9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Breakfast & Coffee*
9:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Research Group Introductions
10:00 p.m. – 12:00 p.m. Planetary Sciences & Geobiology, Marine Geosciences, Climate & The Environment
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Lunch*
1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Research Group Introductions
1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Energy Geosciences, Solid Earth & Tectonic Processes, Surface & Hydrologic Processes, High School Students
3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Networking Hour & Awards

 

* gluten free and vegan options will be provided. Please get in touch if you have any other requirements we should take into account.

  • We will provide a lactation room, quiet sensory room / prayer space, and gender-neutral restrooms.
  • Food will be provided to meet different dietary needs (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut-free), but please get in touch if you have a different allergy or dietary need you’d like us to account for.
