Watch

In this talk recorded at the UT Austin Jackson School of Geosciences, PI Elizabeth Catlos presents a critical reassessment of standard Himalayan earthquake models in the wake of the 2015 Gorkha earthquake (Mw 7.8).

  • Why the 2015 rupture didn’t behave as predicted by conventional MHT models.
  • Evidence for additional active fault systems beyond the Main Himalayan Thrust.
  • The case for the Judi, Thaple, Gaurisankar, and Pokhara lineaments as active structures.

Speaker: Elizabeth Catlos, University of Texas at Austin, Jackson School of Geosciences

Hosted by: UT Austin Jackson School of Geosciences, DeFord Lecture Series
