Developing methodology for determination of trace elements and heavy metals in Bald Cypress Tree cores using both Laser Ablation and solution mode ICP-MS

In this project, we have developed methodology to analyze a tree core collected from Waller Creek using both Laser Ablation and solution mode ICP-MS. Our data compares and contrasts the concentrations derived from the two types of analysis and assess whether there are any trends in tree core content of trace elements and heavy metals, whose concentrations in the natural environment may be influenced by the level of human activity. This website details our research proposal, the methods we used to prepare and analyze our samples, and a discussion of our results. Our findings provide important considerations for the analysis of tree rings to assess anthropogenic impact of urbanization on the natural environment.
