From Our Desk to Your Ears: Introducing the Science, Y’all! Podcast

By Noah Benitez-Nelson

Hi there! My name is Noah Benitez-Nelson, and I am one of the newest editors (and occasional contributors) to join the Science, Y’all! Team. I’m very excited to be reaching out to y’all now about the reboot of the Science, Y’all! Podcast which you can now find on Spotify!

We’ve decided to relaunch the Science, Y’all! Podcast as another avenue of sharing those aspects of academics, research, and general campus life otherwise unknown to the broader Austin community.  Nick Regier and I are excited to host the podcast and share some of our favorite people and stories from the Jackson School and beyond.  Our first episode is available now on Spotify, and while there isn’t a prize for the first listener, we are excited to announce a cash prize of $1,000 and lifetime NSF research funding for the 100th person to like and share the show with their friends.

Hi, Emily here.  NSF wrote back to our grant submission for a cash prize with the word “no” and a crying while laughing emoji.  There will unfortunately be no cash prize or life-long grant for liking and sharing the podcast, but you’d still make us happy by following us on Spotify!

For our first episode of the Science, Y’all! Podcast, we invited Morgan Carrington and Michelle Tebolt (first- and fourth-year graduate students in the Planetary Surface Processes lab) for a conversation about the ever-evolving experience of grad life.  We loved hearing their unique perspectives, learning about their research, and hearing how they’ve engaged with the greater JSG community.

If you haven’t listened yet, give it a go!  We promise it’s great background for your morning commute, patio lunch, or late afternoon screaming match with that one line of code that no matter how long you look at it or how many times you search stack overflow just refuses to work, and now its 7pm and you’re still in the office and you haven’t eaten anything but the lollipop and packet of M&Ms in your bag from Halloween.

We can’t wait to share this new chapter from the Science, Y’all! team and hope you’ll join us in listening in.  Have a happy fall break, and we’ll talk to you soon!

P.S. We’re always on the lookout for new contributors to showcase on the blog and in our podcast.  If you have a story you’d like to tell, a recommendation for the show or blog, or a general inquiry, reach out to us on our website or via email at utscienceyall@gmail.com.

The Science, Y’all! podcast and Science, Y’all! blog neither endorses or is supported by M&Ms and their parent company… but if you know someone who knows someone, let them know we’re open to collaborate.
