Director’s Message

Fred Beech

History has shown that we have an almost insatiable demand for energy and Earth resources, including minerals and water as they are fundamental to the basic needs and growing prosperity of the global population. “Revolutionary,” “exponential,” and “unprecedented” are apt descriptions of the pace of change in the energy and Earth resources arena.

This rapid increase in demand is happening amidst growing concern about the sustainability of our behavior and its impact on our climate and environment. Society is becoming more aware of the challenges we face and beginning to question unbridled growth while also demanding greater accountability from governments and private enterprise. Concurrently, rapidly evolving technologies are providing opportunities that could accommodate a cleaner and more energy and resource-efficient future.

The prudent management of energy and earth resources requires multidisciplinary consideration of science, engineering, economics, and policy to discover the big ideas and innovations at the interfaces of these fields of study. That is precisely the mission of EER. You will be able to leverage very highly ranked graduate programs in the geosciences, engineering, business, public policy, and law to prepare yourself for 21st century careers in energy, minerals, water, and environmental analysis.
