About

Neuquén Basin Project is a collaboration between the University of Texas at Austin and industry associate companies PlusPetrol, YPF and Shell. The scope of the project is to enhance the knowledge of the sedimentology and stratigraphy of the Jurassic deposits of Neuquen Basin, with an emphasis on the La Jardinera area in southern Neuquén Embayment.

Location of the outcrop study area. Paim et al 2008.

The geological formations of interest for this project are mainly Los Molles, Las Lajas and Challaco Fm that are exposed in the outcrops and extend in the subsurface into the basin. Description and interpretation of deposits in the outcrops is the main tool of investigation and is also combined with the available subsurface data.

Lithostratigraphy of the field area. Olariu (2016).

Characteristics of each depositional system such as fluvial, delta/ shoreline basin slope and basin floor fan as well as linkage between these systems is the main outcome of the project.
