Drilling into a Subduction Zone

Subduction zones are the source of the world’s largest and most damaging earthquakes and tsunamis. The UT GeoFluids and GeoMechanics lab is investigating the mechanics of plate boundary faults through scientific drilling efforts, boreholes observatories and seafloor geodesy, alongside a host of lab experiments and theoretical geomechanics.
