Overview of Project Goal:
This project develops a laser ablation ICP-MS method to analyze cation concentrations in freshwater mussel shells belonging to the order Unionida from the Wichita River watershed. By linking isotopic data in shells with salinity gradients, the study aims to evaluate how water chemistry shapes biomineralization of shelled organisms. This aims to provide insights into watershed hydrology and mussel ecology.
