Specify Database

A big decision was made to migrate our biological databases over to Specify. All the specimens that were of biological origins (fossils) and the Recent comparative material fell into this category. Thus when we inherited the Texas mussel collection of Robert Howells after he retired from Texas Parks and Wildlife, there was a natural test case for Specify.

Nina Triche, then a graduate student, entered all the data relating to the specimens into the new database application. She also completed all other accession tasks of numbering, relocating in inert containers and record imaging.

Our big test now is to get the large databases merged and in a format ready to be migrated into the same application.
