Social Events
Community development within the organization is key to establishing life-long friendships in the geoscience world. Below are listed some of the events that we have participated in the past.
Intramural Volleyball
GLOW formed an intramural volleyball team. Members showed off their athletic ability and “rocked” it out on the court!
Kayaking with UGS on Lady Bird Lake
On April 3rd, 2016, GLOW and the Undergraduate Geological Society co-hosted a kayaking event on Austin’s beautiful Lady Bird Lake.
Caving at Whirlpool Cave
On March 25, 2015, UT Grotto lead GLOW on a private tour of Whirlpool Cave. We had a blast taking turns trying to turn around in the “Rat Hole,” hearing about the history of the cave, and experiencing a few minutes of total darkness. We celebrated with burgers and milkshakes at P. Terry’s afterwards – and were probably the muddiest people they’ve ever seen!
Kayaking on Town Lake
We had a beautiful Saturday kayaking on Town Lake on October 26, 2014 – complete with turtle sightings!
Day Hike at St. Edwards Park
GLOW had a great time hiking around St. Edwards park in a hike led by graduate student Meredith Bush on September 14, 2014. We even found a rope swing going into a refreshing swimming hole!
