The majority of Jackson School undergraduates enter the school as incoming freshman who select geosciences during the process of their undergraduate application to The University of Texas at Austin. Everything students need to know to apply for undergraduate admission to both the Jackson School and The University of Texas at Austin can be found on the UT Office of Admissions website. No academic units at the university directly process admissions for incoming freshmen or transferring undergraduates.

Students can also apply to the Jackson School later in their undergraduate careers but should be aware that the school only accepts a limited number of qualified transfers each year from other colleges at UT Austin, as well as from other institutions. This is a shift from previous years, when a majority of geoscience students entered the program after their freshmen year.

Students apply to the Jackson School following the standard procedures for the university, as outlined in the UT Austin General Information and Undergraduate Catalog.
