Laboratories, Research Facilities & Equipment

Research in the geosciences is supported by dozens of  state-of-the-art labs staffed by expert scientists, including facilities for geochemistry, mass spectrometry, thermo- and geochronology, mineral physics, morphodynamics, and high-resolution X-ray computed tomography.

The Department is also home to extensive collections, including the Vertebrate Paleontology Lab which ranks among the seven largest collections of fossil vertebrates in North America and the Non-Vertebrate Paleontology Lab which hosts four million specimens including fossil invertebrates and plants, rocks, minerals, and meteorites.
