Our programs and services are designed to help students navigate three stages of career and professional development: exploring career options, gaining experience through internships and research, and emerging into the professional world or graduate school. Below you will find tailored suggestions for students who are in each of these three stages.


Wondering what you can do with a degree in the geosciences? These resources can help you explore your options:

  • Read alumni spotlights on the Career Center website for advice and insight into different careers.
  • Attend events and speakers in the Career Exploration Series to learn about various career options in the geosciences.
  • Visit the fall or spring career fair to see which companies recruit Jackson School students.
  • Spend a day at a company during an academic break through our undergraduate Externship Program.
  • Register on GeoSource. Read through job postings to find jobs and companies that sound interesting.
  • Visit the Career Center in JGB 2.112 to discover other strategies and on-campus resources to explore careers.


Want to gain experience through internships or research? Start with these ideas and resources:

  • Schedule an appointment to talk about your interests and how to find relevant opportunities.
  • Go through the list of internship and research programs on the Career Center website. Start your summer internship search in the fall, as many deadlines begin in January.
  • Check GeoSource regularly to find internship postings, events and helpful resources.
  • Participate in on-campus recruiting by attending company info sessions and the fall and spring career fairs.
  • If you’re considering graduate school, come in to talk about the application process, timeline and campus resources.
  • Update your resume and have it reviewed by the Career Center.
  • Improve your interview skills with a mock interview appointment.
  • Attend workshops and events that fit your needs and interests.
