The study of carbonate strata in both the modern setting and in ancient successions provides a uniquely high-resolution record of the interplay of tectonics, eustacy, and biologic factors as recorded in stratigraphic architecture, depositional facies, biologic communities, and chemostratigraphic and diagenetic records. The JSG carbonate systems group is engaged in carbonate research ranging from Proterozoic to Recent and from modern sediments to outcrops, to subsurface reservoir systems.
