2006 JSG Newsletter - Caspian Sea

ON THE COVER: The Caspian Sea as seen from space. The North Caspian is the region of four of the world's "new giants," oil and gas fields discovered since 2000 that have more than 500 million barrels of ultimately recoverable oil or an equivalent amount of gas: Kashagan, Kalamkas-More, Khvalynskoye, and Rakushechnoye. See related article on page 42 on the map of the world's giants prepared by Paul Mann and colleagues at the Jackson School's Institute for Geophysics, in collaboration with independent consultant Mike Horn and IHS Vice President Ian Cross.
