6:00P-6:30P. B. Clark Burchfiel: The Aegean: A Natural Laboratory
for Tectonics.
6:30P-7:00P. George H. Davis: Archaeological Elements of Mt. Lykaion Sanctuary of
Zeus (southern Peloponnesos) in Relation to Tectonics and Structural Geology.
Both lectures will take place in the Protho Theater in the Harry Ransom Center
(attendance limited to 126 people; arrive early to ensure a seat).
7:00P-8:30P. Catered reception. Mediterranean inspired; wine and tapas bar. After 5PM attire.
UT Austin’s Turkish University Students Association will provide an artistic program.
We also hope to show a small exhibit of photographs of Constantinople from the Ransom collection.
Tuesday, April 29, 2008: 8:00AM-10:45PM.
This day is dedicated towards 20-minute lectures
delivered by keynote speakers, an afternoon discussion session, and an evening poster session.
8:00A-8:05AM. Introductory Remarks- Mark Cloos, Getty Oil Company Centennial Chair in Geological Sciences .
8:05A-5:20PM. Talks will be given on the UT campus in the Jackson School of Geosciences, Boyd Auditorium, JSG 2.324.
5:20P-6:30PM. Breakout Session I. What is the future of research in extensional tectonics?
What are the present major research questions in extensional tectonics?
What kind of multidisciplinary research can be proposed to solve these questions?
Chairs are Gary Axen and Michael A. Murphy.
6:45P-10:45PM.The Jackson School American Association of Petroleum Geologists Student Chapter will host an evening reception for students, alumni and presenters, including the keynote speakers.
Posters will be presented after dinner from 8:00P-9:00PM. Host bar will be provided.
Wednesday, April 30, 2008: 8:30A-5:00PM.
This day is dedicated towards 20-minute lectures delivered
by keynote speakers and an afternoon discussion session.
8:30A-2:00PM. Talks will be given on the UT campus in the Jackson School of Geosciences, Boyd Auditorium, JSG 2.324.
2:00P-3:30PM. Breakout Session II. What is the future for Aegean research?
During the breakout session, we will work towards establishing research priorities, areas for exploration, and potential collaborations to be able to follow-through with potential proposals and projects.
Ideas developed here will be discussed during the field trip.
Chairs areIbrahim Cemen, Yildirim Dilek, and John Kappelman.
Lunch and snack breaks will be provided throughout the program.
