We have TWO mentoring programs with SRS. We are always looking for members! Whether you would like some advice or guidance, or you think you’d make a great mentor, please contact SRS at SRSJSG@gmail.com to get involved!
GeoForce Mentors: One program pairs JSG graduate students with incoming first year undergraduates at UT that are part of the GeoFORCE program. The GeoFORCE grads come from small towns and high schools, and many are struggling with the transition to a large university like UT. Mentoring includes teaching the students how to create a proper schedule, how to effectively study, take notes, take exams, how to have a well-rounded life so you don’t burn out, etc… You won’t be on your own here- we have lots of tools to help you get started, and are using a team approach.
Jackson School Mentors: Our second program connects mentors with students seeking mentorship at all levels in JSG. In this system, we pair first and second year undergraduates with upperclassmen, and upperclassmen are paired with graduate students within JSG. We want to provide an opportunity to connect students at all levels within the JSG community, so you should feel free to join the program at any point during your time here. JSG Mentors can help with a variety of things, such as, advice on applying to graduate school, connections with professors for undergraduate research opportunities, advice on classes, or just someone to talk to.
