Mentoring

Mentoring Program:

We have TWO mentoring programs with SRS. We are always looking for mentors, so if you are interested, feel free to email gsec.jsg@gmail.com, or sign up via the link below!

GeoForce Mentors: One program pairs JSG graduate students with incoming first year undergraduates at UT that are part of the GeoFORCE program.  The GeoFORCE grads come from small towns and high schools, and many are struggling with the transition to a large university like UT.  Mentoring includes teaching the students how to create a proper schedule, how to effectively study, take notes, take exams, how to have a well-rounded life so you don’t burn out, etc… You won’t be on your own here- we have lots of tools to help you get started, and are using a team approach.

Jackson School Mentors: Our second program is more informal and connects JSG graduate students with JSG undergraduate students in need of mentorship. Mentors are matched up with undergraduates by JSG academic advisors on an as needed basis (based on the needs of the undergraduate mentees). Grad student mentors can help with a variety of things, such as providing an interested undergraduate with advice on applying to graduate school, helping them make connections with professors for undergraduate research opportunities, giving advice on classes, or just being someone to talk to.

If you are a grad student interested in being a mentor for either program, please fill out our online form here.

If you are an undergrad interested in having a mentor, please fill out our online form here.

After submitting the appropriate form, the mentoring program coordinators will follow up with you via email.
