What they say:
"I thought the whole GeoFORCE trip was awesome! I met a lot of new friends.
I learned a lot about geology that I hope will help me in the future."
"I really enjoyed coming on this trip with the GeoFORCE program. I got to get on a
plane for the first time and finally left the state of Texas. So thank you for allowing me into this program, I really appreciate it."
Where We GoGeoFORCE Texas Summer Academies and Young Geoscientists programs have impressive itineraries that provide the students a unique experience that builds on the previous year.
Students participating in the Academies travel all over the country. They learn about the geosciences from their backyards in Texas to Utah, Arizona, Oregon, and Florida, as well as in museums and organizations in Washington DC. View Larger Map Young Geoscientists focus on the great state of Texas and locally available geological experiences by exploring exciting sites, such as Mustang Island (Port Aransas), Uvalde, Austin, and New Mexico.
Each GeoFORCE event is accompanied by set of a professionally developed field guides. Written by Bureau of Economic Geology research and field scientists, these 30 to 70 page, spiral bound hand-outs have been designed to give the students a day-to-day break down of the geological concepts that are learned at each location they visit in the field.
The information is compared and contrasted to other sites from past and in future site visits. The field guides for GeoFORCE Texas also include information that links them to their “own backyard.” Students are rewarded for their hard efforts at a closing ceremony. |
