Financial aid & Scholarships are available for all kinds of students all over the country. The sooner you can investigate what is being offered, the sooner you can apply and be awarded the funds you will need for your first year.
During your Junior Year
Look into QuestBridge, which is a wonderful program for low income, high achieving students. Their College Prep Scholarship gives you scholarships to summer programs between your Junior and Senior year. It also provides college application counseling, mentoring, all expenses paid college visits, plus opportunities for college scholarships. Applications open in February and close in March each year.
During your Senior Year
The Questbridge National College Match program provides 4-year scholarships at one of 31 partner colleges. The application for this program opens in August and is due September 30 of your Senior year. The GeoFORCE Graduate Scholars Partnership is a scholarship for GeoFORCE students who are pursuing STEM degrees at several Texas universities. In Texas, the TG Foundation has a website focused on the financial needs of students. Click in to AIE here, you can use their on-line tools and tutorials (highly recommended) and you can sign up for an e-newsletter full of information about paying for college, and managing finances in general.

Scholarships or search engines with specific targets
The Terry Foundation offers scholarships to cover the entire unmet need of students at UT Austin, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, UT San Antonio, U Houston, UT Dallas, U. North Texas. They are currently funding 700 students. You cannot apply directly to them. If you apply to attend any of these schools, when you fill out your financial aid information, be sure to click the box that says “consider me for a Terry Scholarship.” The best strategy–apply to several Terry schools, and ask them ALL to consider you for a Terry Scholarship.
The Hamman Foundation has been a GeoFORCE sponsor since 2011. They offer $16,000 scholarships to Houston area high school graduates that can be used at ANY college in the US. Due date is 4:00 PM, on Friday, February 19, 2016.
The Society for Petroleum Engineers has several scholarships for students who plan to study or are already studying petroleum engineering. Due date is April 15, 2016.
The Society for Women Engineers has several scholarships for women who plan to study or are already studying engineering. Application period for incoming Freshmen is March 1 – May 16, 2016.
The National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering has several scholarships for minority students who plan to study or are already studying engineering at partner universities. Application deadline for is March, 2016. (Exact date not yet posted on official website.)
If your parent is or was in the military, try Military Scholar.org. Deadline is February, 2016. (Exact date not yet posted on official website.)
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund lists hundreds of scholarships for hispanic students. Applications open January, 2015, (Exact date not yet posted on official website.) but you can create your profile any time.
The Gates Millennium Scholarships are for very high achieving students. Applications open January, 2016.(Exact date not yet posted on official website.)
African American students should check out the The United Negro College Fund site for hundreds of scholarship opportunities.
The Sleeklens Academic Scholarship Program is for $2,000 and is open to all current full-time college students and high school seniors that have been awarded acceptance letters. Application are due on March 31, 2016.
