Students in the following independent school districts in South Texas or students attending the following public schools in the Houston Independent School District are eligible to apply to the GeoFORCE program:

• South Texas Independent School Districts
• Houston schools

Students must apply to be eligible to be accepted into the GeoFORCE Texas Academy. Students may join the Young Geoscientists track after the call for applications providing all criteria is met.

Students that have been selected into the Academy must complete assigned pre-academy coursework (essays) and maintain a B or better overall grade point average as well as a B or better in math AND science courses to remain in the program. These items will be checked prior to the start of 10th, 11th, and 12th grade Academies (AP and pre-AP courses are weighted).

Application Process

The application requires four signed parts:

1. Student essay: Students must explain why they are interested in being a part of the GeoFORCE program.



2. Proof of grades: including attached transcripts.



3. Teacher recommendation: details the overall behavior and social conduct of the student, their willingness to learn, and ability to commit to a project – must be signed by math/science teacher or counselor.



4. Parent consent: Parent is aware of the program and agrees that the student is allowed to participate – must be signed by parent or guardian.

The application must include the fall report card and the report card from the previous school year.

Southwest Texas students apply while in 8th grade.
