Station HKT is the first IRIS/GSN station in Texas; the
nearest regional broad-band stations are located in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, Tuscon, Arizona, and in Mexico
City. The Hockley station helps fill the large gap in
station coverage throughout the mid-west and along the Gulf
coast states. |
 |
UTIG’s GK-12 PROGRAM partners three graduate student fellows
each year with six science teachers and work alongside with
scientists and graduate students as part of a team, and
through this interaction, are improving their scientific
content knowledge, their understanding of the technology
used in the geosciences. They gain an understanding of how
research is carried out and integrate research with
education. |
 |
A system to disseminate marine seismic data, the main
components are a Field Data Center at Lamont-Doherty
Geological Observatory and a Processed Data Center at the
University of Texas. The center at UT also seeks efficient
methods for scientists with National Science Foundation
funding to meet data-sharing quidelines. Small images and
metadata are freely available for all database entries but
some data are restricted. |
 |
Investigators apply seismic refraction surveying to a wide
range of problems. To carry out seismic refraction work on
the seafloor, UTIG has developed a specialized ocean-bottom
seismometer (OBS). This is a microprocessor- controlled
instrument that is placed on the seafloor to record seismic
signals generated by seismic sources. |
 |
Real-time data center collecting and disseminating online
data from seismic facilities across the region. |
 |
In addition to approximately 2000 books, the library
subscribes to 40 current journals and has limited back
holdings of almost 200 others. The UTIG Library collection circulates to faculty and
students of UTIG. |
