Typical Careers

Many of our students launch their careers in Houston, Texas, the heart of the petroleum industry in the United States. The global nature of the industry will lead you to foreign destinations for exploration, research and production. Our graduates are working in top petroleum companies, consulting firms, mining and exploration firms, research institutes, and federal, state and city government agencies. Recent graduates are currently found in Brazil, Switzerland, Japan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and Australia.

Your experience at UT will translate into excellent verbal and communication skills, strong ethics for consulting, marketing, project management and operations techniques, cutting-edge computer software, and knowledge of federal, state and local government processes.

Recent graduates have been placed with Anadarko, BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Korea Gas Corporation, Petrobras, Shell, TOTAL, Schlumberger, and Wood Mackenzie, to name a few. For a comprehensive list, please view our placements page, or contact our office for details.
