Critical infrastructure upgrades and expanded digital access to Non-vertebrate Paleontology Collections

Drs. Ann Molineux and Rowan Martindale were recently awarded an NSF- Collections in Support of Biological Research (CSBR) award to begin a dramatic improvement in the storage conditions and digital accessibility of all geological collections housed on the UT Research Campus. The three year grant of almost half a million dollars covers the purchase of archival cabinets, pest mitigation and improved climate control. The project will involve collaboration with TACC and the development of an innovative query tool to allow virtual browsing of the newly housed specimens. Students and volunteers will have the opportunity to learn the intricate workings of a research collection, the importance of retaining these specimens and their related data.
