Changing the World of Geosciences, Strategic Plan, 2007-2010

In April 2007, the Jackson School initiated a new strategic plan for 2007-2010, "Changing the World of Geosciences." The goal of the plan is to create the country's preeminent geoscience program. Highlights include

• Hiring 35 new faculty and scientists.
• Placing the school at the forefront of research.
• Placing the school at the forefront of education, student services, and student opportunities.
• Creating the fabric of a great college.
• Increasing competitiveness for top talent.

In its hiring and research capabilities, the school will focus on four new and expanded areas of excellence and three themes that cut across all of its disciplines:

		Crust/Mantle/Core Dynamics
		Surface and Hydrologic Processes
		Energy, Environment, and Policy Research
		Climate Systems Science
	Emerging Cross-Cutting Themes
		Water and Water Resource Sustainability
		Computational Geosciences
		Rapid Response Research
