Dr. Clark Wilson
Dr. Clark Wilson is Chairman of the Department of Geological Sciences. Dr.
Wilson's expertise in geophysics is in two main areas, geodesy and applied
seismology. With support from NASA, his studies in geodesy investigate the
causes of earth rotation and gravity field changes that arise from air and water
mass redistribution due to weather and climate. Within this interdisciplinary
area of research Dr. Wilson works with hydrologists, oceanographers, aerospace
engineers, and others. Dr. Wilson is also a member of the Center for Space
Research in the College of Engineering, and his work in geodesy involves heavy
collaboration with scientists in that unit. In the area of applied seismology
Dr. Wilson is working with colleagues in Civil Engineering to develop a national
earthquake engineering facility for the study of geotechnical properties of the
near-surface using seismic methods.
