Dr. Scott Tinker
Dr. Scott W. Tinker was appointed Director of the Bureau of Economic Geology,
the University of Texas at Austin, in January of 2000. He is the State Geologist
of Texas, and holds the Edwin Allday Endowed Chair in the Jackson School of
Geosciences. Before coming to the University of Texas, Tinker spent 18 years
working in the oil and gas industry, most recently at Marathon Oil Company’s
Petroleum Technology Center. He is recipient of best paper awards in two major
journals, is a former Association of American Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)
Distinguished Lecturer, Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Distinguished
Lecturer and current AAPG International Distinguished Ethics Lecturer. He is a
member of many societies, boards and foundations, including the NRC Board on
Energy and Environmental Systems and Trinity University Board of Visitors.
Tinker holds a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, M.S. from the University
of Michigan, and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Trinity University with
major in Business Administration and Geology.
