Welcome to the Jackson School. Whatever your connection to our school, I invite you to join in our effort to create a great enterprise in the geosciences.
Jackson School students and researchers benefit from the support of the Geology Foundation, and most especially, the legacy of the late John A. Jackson. Jack Jackson’s vision and his unprecedented generosity inspired a new institution to take shape, combining one of the largest and most highly ranked academic geoscience programs with two major research units. With our breadth and diversity, the Jackson School offers unique opportunities for students, faculty, and researchers in pursuit of excellence in the geosciences.
While our school is new, our tradition is old. It dates back to 1888 and the founding of one of the country’s most celebrated geology departments. Texas has long been regarded as a leading university for the geosciences, with a tradition of educating industry leaders in oil and gas, an outstanding geophysics institute, top ten programs in tectonics, paleontology, and hydrogeology, and the No. 1 program in stratigraphy and sedimentology.
Our opportunity is immense. Our challenge is even greater.
